A space-tacular birthday!

Our little one just turned 3 and he’s just growing up right before our very eyes (cue the tears!). When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday he replied without hesitation, “a rocket ship birthday cake!” and thus, the space-tacular party them was put into full effect!

DETAILS

I illustrated space elements ages ago and had yet to put them into a design, so I knew they would be the perfect start for the invitation (complete with a little face peeking in the rocketship!) and they are now available here.

Little details such as the rocket ship and celestial cake toppers, Meri Meri cupcake toppers, and *custom cookies really pulled the theme together.

ACTIVITIES

For activities we set up little stations around the backyard using mainly items we already had such as: a “moon rock” decorating station, hula hoops (aka ‘Saturn Rings’), our kid golf clubs set out (golfing on the moon), a rocket blaster toy (only $10 at Target and doubled as birthday gift!) and we rented a *bounce house/ball pit combo adorned with a *Lushra balloon garland.

The moon rock station started because I found some old landscaping rocks sitting in the garage and it sparked a cheap craft idea! All you need is some glitter glue, washable markers and stickers of some sort—I had all of these already so it was easy to throw together. I made a hand-lettered acrylic sign as well.

REFRESHMENTS

We kept food light and easy with deli sandwiches, Uncrustables for the kids, salad (from a kit so it was easy to throw together!), bagged chips, homemade (well from a box, haha!) cupcakes and a grocery store cake! We provided light beer, wine and cold brew for the adults, too (because if you haven’t been to a toddlers birthday before, these are essentials!)

For favors, I let our little one choose what to give his friends—the winners were bubble necklaces and glow stick bracelets—the perfect astronaut accessories! I added a personalized color sheet that I illustrated and printed out on card-stock and personalized rocket ship tags. We also had a small area where kids could get tatted with the cutest temporary space tattoos (it was such a hit!)

I hope you feel inspired to take on your own space party that is out-of-this-world!

*I love the Lushra garlands because they are easy to assemble, biodegradable and they provide days of entertainment after the party too!

**Nona Bounce Co. provided the bounce/ball pit combo and they were so kind and professional. The owner even installed my balloon garland to the bounce house last minute!

***I knew I wanted some decorated cookies thay people could take home and Drea’s Petite Sweets did not disappoint. She took my vision and ran with it to produce adorable 2” cookie designs and even delivered them to my house!
